Snapshots of other people's lives and their babies

We retitled our blog to "Snapshots of Our Lives" recently* but realized that three of our last six posts have been about other people's lives, and two of those three are about their babies. Now, this is the third post about another friends' baby... We hope you're enjoying the mega baby blog fest. They are infinitely more interesting these days than our own lives. We just cannot recall the last time we were tempted to take 72 photos of each other staring, crawling, and drooling.

John, Nette and their 11-month-old darling girl Mina are in town from San Diego to visit with family and friends. We had them over for dinner on Saturday, and they brought the entertainment.

Duncan and Mina jocking for position to get the ball.
Mina wins!
*Originally named "Oh the married life," the blog title/banner changed because Jen had abundance of time to waste one weekend.

Ruby baby

Today was an extraordinarily good great day. I met Ruby Haggerty. She was just 26 hours old when I held her for the first time this afternoon and said hello. She weighs 8 pounds, 6 ounces, and stretches twenty-one and a half inches long. She is magnificently beautiful with perfect heart-shaped mouth and future-Miss-America-long legs. Her mom, Allison, also looked incredible and deserves the Mother of the Century Award. How can any woman (or man) recover from a four-hour surgery with so much humor and grace? TOWANDA, girlfriend!

Occasionally, while sleeping, she would punch her arms into the air and make tiny twittering noises... Maybe she's dreaming of being a boxer? A political activist?
Congratulations Phil & Allison! We are ALWAYS available to babysit!

The birthday boy

Like an ANGEL! Photo taken in 1977.

Today we celebrated Mike's 33rd birthday with breakfast in bed, ten hours of work at the office, and dinner at the Mikado Restaurant. Oh yes, it was all dat... alright, no... Considering his last three birthdays were celebrated in the southern hemisphere (Argentina in 2007, New Zealand in 2006, and Costa Rica in 2005), this birthday was a tough one to do. So, I made up for it, or attempted to, with a groovy gift—our very first trip to New York City to be taken in May around our one-year anniversary. No kidding. Neither of us has been to the Big Apple. Ever. We've been to a lot of places around the globe, but this fact about us makes us feel quite, um, provincial. Only one way to plan for such a monumental trip—watch more Seinfeld! Happy birthday darling... You will always be the hot younger man in my life.

Single Tracks in the Park City Film Music Festival!

Our dear friend An Dinh and his film Single Tracks have just been nominated for the Best Use of Music in Feature Film Award at the Park City Film Music Festival, and the film will screen at the festival's opening on Thursday, January 17th at the Park City Main Street Mall. An is the writer, director, and lead actor in the film, and he has been working on this project while managing his busy Family Medicine practice for over four years. It is a remarkable achievement, and we are very excited for him, Elena, and their talented crew.

The movie is based on a true story... and it is quite a story.

Coming up for air... and fresh powder

For the past six months, I've been working mad hours on a program called GMnext which is a platform to celebrate GM's 100th anniversary. I won't cut-and-paste press-releasey descriptions about the program (you can Google search it and read plenty of those), but we launched the program on January 3rd with a 24-hour live press event. Today is January 6th, and I've slept no less than 30 hours since the launch event ended, and I'm starting to see in color again. Smartphone-free and rested, I joined Lisa and Jocelyn at Millcreek Canyon yesterday, an odd-numbered day when dogs are allowed off-leash, and went snowshoeing for the first time this season with Duncan and his girlfriend Lucy.

Oh, and I took 67 photos in three hours with my new camera, but only a tolerable number selected below. Where was the husband? Mike was enjoying the powder day at Park City Mountain Resort.... tough life of a season pass holder. Even better, his season pass was free thanks to a promotional deal his father took advantage of when he purchased a new Chevy truck.

Happy New Year!

Two thousand and seven was a monumental year for us, with our wedding celebration in May, the honeymoon won from Brides Magazine, a whitewater rafting trip in Chile, and the three-month home improvement/remodel project. In addition, Duncan learned a new trick where he sits still with a treat placed on top of his snout until he is OK'd. We captured the last hours of our 2007 below—spent at work, playing, and at dinner with friends.

Duncan getting ready to take advantage of a perfect powder day... His New Year's Resolution is to chase more tennis balls.
Jen on a conference call... judging from the look on her face, this was not a "things are good" kind of calls. Her New Year's Resolution is to place these calls on mute and enter more online sweepstakes.
Mike's New Year's Resolution is to be an enabler to Duncan and have him chase more tennis balls... and take more naps with him.
Allison smiles big for the camera, with her camera.
Matt looking cool and ready for 2008... and ready for 2009, 2010, 2011...
Rob and Phil discussing their highlights of 2007... determined through game of rock, paper, and scissor.
Ron & Rina's New Year's Resolution is to add a third level to their home... a level below their new basement.
Phil and Allison's New Year's Resolution is to apply and interview for more out-of-state jobs.
Matt and Kara's New Year's Resolution is to really work on their marriage.
