Rock Star: noun
1. A famous singer of rock music
2. Mike Adams
Two weekends ago, Mike and Matty hiked to the summit of Kings Peak which is the highest point in Utah at 13,528 feet elevation. A group of our friends also did the trek, but they opted, like most SANE people, to split the trip into three days. Mike and Matty tackled the summit in one day – close to 30 miles round trip and over 5,000 feet in elevation gain/loss. Photos of their trip will be posted as soon as I figure out how to download them from his iPhone.
And last weekend (less than a week after the Kings Peak hike), Mike ran the St. George Marathon. Now, anyone who knows Mike knows that he detests running… In fact, his longest running distance before the race was 10 miles. His TOTAL distance during training was 15 miles. That is, he ran 5 miles one day, ran 10 miles the following week then his bursitis kicked in and prevented him from running again until race day. He did take up mountain biking this summer, so he was in GREAT condition to race – in a mountain biking tournament… So how did he get suckered into entering the marathon? Blame the wife, of course. After I finished (barely) the Salt Lake Half Marathon in April, I convinced Mike to enter and train for the St. George Marathon together. Through their lottery system, I got in. He didn't. Sensing my disappointment, he surprised me on our wedding anniversary with an entry by making a donation to Big Brother Big Sister. Two weeks later, I surprised him with a positive pregnancy test... Doh!
We were told that it was only the second time it has rained on race day.
Young fans and future marathoners cheering for the runners.
Looking FRESH still at mile 23!
Just a few feet from the finish line!
He finished at 4 hours and 26 minutes (roughly 10-minute mile pace)!!!
Thumbs up on his first and possibly last marathon.
